TEHRAN (Defapress) - The Financial Times reported today (Friday) that figures show that more than 1,930 Americans applied to become British citizens in the first quarter of 2025, a 12 percent increase on the previous quarter and the highest ever recorded.
An immigration lawyer told the Financial Times that the surge in Americans applying to immigrate to the UK was driven by “fear, frustration, and financial security.”
According to the British newspaper, UK data also showed that the number of Americans applying for student visas in early 2025 rose by 9.6 percent compared to the previous year, mainly for undergraduate courses.
This follows the repressive actions of the Donald Trump administration against US universities, including for holding demonstrations in support of Palestine, as well as the suppression of progressive ideas and scientific research.
Trump took office as the 47th President of the United States on January 20 of this year, while at the beginning of his second term, he adopted a number of controversial executive orders and opening-up positions.
