US expected to respect pact on ICC official's visaCommenting on the UN secretary general's stance on US impeding visa issuance for the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Fatu Bensouda, Stephane Dujarric in an exclusive interview with Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) expressed hope that 'the United States Government will continue to comply with its obligations under the UN Headquarters Agreement as confirmed by the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, in his statement of 15 March.'

The office of prosecutor Bensouda annonced Friday that Washington has suspended its visa to enter the US because of the probes she had on the forces of the country in Afghanistan.

The spokesman added that if the prosecutor needed to come to the United Nations, she might be afforded a visa in light of the Headquarters Agreement for work being done at the United Nations.

The decision on denying visa from the ICC Gambian prosecutor is being made a few weaks after Secretary Pompeo threatened that Washington would be imposing restrictions on the court's staff if they launched investigations on possible war crimes committed by the US forces in Afghanistan.

Bensouda's office said that the decision would not affect her report if he goes to the UN.
