TEHRAN (Defapress) - According to RT Arabic, Hamid al-Shatri, the head of Iraq's Intelligence Service, stated: "There are 9,000 ISIS elements in the prisons of Al-Hasakah, Syria."
He added: "ISIS underground cells are active in the desert areas of Homs and Damascus. Developments in Syria directly impact Iraq, and Baghdad has sent direct messages to Damascus regarding security threats."
Al-Shatri emphasized: "There are some concerns about the activities of terrorist elements in the region amid the developments in Syria. Over the past period, Iraq has suffered significant losses due to the infiltration of suicide bombers and the smuggling of drugs across its borders."
He stated: "Iraq places great importance on combating ISIS elements. There are still 30,000 ISIS members from 60 countries in Syrian camps. We want to know how the new rulers of Syria will deal with these elements."
