TEHRAN (Defapress) - The attacks by the Syrian rebels on civilians, mainly Alawites, in Latakia and Tartus in the west of the country were met with a reaction from the Republic of Ireland.
"I strongly condemn the attacks, violence and killing of civilians in western Syria," Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin said on Monday.
"The Syrian interim authorities must ensure the protection of civilians without discrimination and hold those responsible for these crimes accountable," Martin explained, according to Reuters.
"We welcome the establishment of an independent commission to investigate [recent] violence in Syria."
The Irish diplomat also added: "We call for a peaceful and inclusive transfer of power in Syria that ensures full protection of the rights of all the people of this country."
