TEHRAN (Defapress) - Algeria has initiated the necessary steps to cancel its air services agreement with the United Arab Emirates. The agreement was signed in Abu Dhabi in 2013 and was ratified by presidential decree in December 2014.

According to Article 22 of the agreement, the contracting party, the UAE, must be notified of its cancellation through diplomatic channels and, at the same time, inform the Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to initiate the necessary measures with that organization.
This is despite the Algerian government or other officials not having made the reason for this decision public.
Previously, Algeria’s relations with Abu Dhabi have been severely strained due to the UAE’s support for Morocco.
“Thani Al-Zayoudi”, the UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade, announced the “Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement” between Abu Dhabi and Morocco in the middle of last year.
Relations between Algeria and the UAE have been strained by Algeria’s organized campaign against Abu Dhabi. The root of these differences is the UAE’s open support for Morocco in the Western Sahara issue.
Algerian media and political circles have recently emphasized that the UAE is interfering in the internal affairs of countries in the African region.
