TEHRAN (Defapress) - Iran's sovereignty over the three islands of Lesser Tunb, Greater Tunb, and Abu Musa islands, has its roots in the Achaemenid, Parthian, and Sassanid kingdoms. During this period, Iranian order and security ruled over the entire water area of the Persian Gulf and its islands.

3 islands are counted as Iran's property and territory

Greater and Lesser Tunbs are located 17 miles southwest of Iran's Qeshm Island and 46 miles northwest of the closest point to the United Arab Emirates coastline. The Lesser Tunb is located 8 miles west of Greater Tunb.

The Abu Musa island is located 43 miles from the coast of Iran and 38 miles northwest of Sharjah and is approximately three square miles. This island consists of sandy plains, especially in the center and south. Its northern hills, including Mount Halva, are approximately 100 meters high. This island, which is rich in iron oxide, has fresh water and palm trees.

In terms of country divisions, Graeter Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa islands were considered functions of Bandar Lengeh, and usually, the Iranian rulers of Lengeh appointed officials to manage the affairs of these islands.

Even during the entire period of British occupation of these islands until 1971, these islands were still considered part of Iran's territory in the national division plan. In all the documents and maps left before 1971, they were drawn as a continuation of the mainland of Iran. After the return of these islands to Iran in 1971, the mentioned islands became the functions of Hormozgan province.

The Persian Gulf is the junction of the three continents of Europe, Africa and Asia, beyond which are the three lands of Iran, India, and China. Although in the past this waterway was more valuable and prestigious in terms of communication and transportation ways, in the following years, especially after the discovery of oil and gas in this area, its importance took on new dimensions. After World War II and the emergence of a bipolar world, one pole of which was very close to this gulf, its importance increased - especially in the eyes of the rival pole.

The 3 islands have a special importance in the defense of Iran and are extremely important from a military point of view and have a special defensive position. The three islands can be considered as the defensive support of Iran's southern coasts and ports and control and monitoring points for Iran's waterways. Also, in case of any military attack against the country, the mentioned islands can act as a defensive shield, and if properly equipped and prepared, a large number of military operations and movements, either defensively or offensively, from them against any aggression and foreign military attack".

On the other hand, the Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf are considered the best bastions to protect the south side, and if they are equipped and armed, attacking the coasts of Iran is very difficult and even impossible.

Based on the given information, it is proven that these 3 islands are historically and logically for Iran. However, the United Arab Emirates, together with the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf region, continues to insist on the ownership of these islands, and statements have been published by the Arab League, the European Union, Russia, the United States, and China in support of the United Arab Emirates.

These statements were issued in a way that stepped on the independence and sovereignty of Iran and interfered in Iran's official border affairs. As the historical documents proved, these borders were in Iran's territory and based on the declaration of rights and duties of countries which was approved by the International Law Commission in 1949, "every country is obliged to refrain from interfering in the internal and external affairs of another country."

Also, the principle of territorial Integrity gives sovereign states the right to defend and protect their country's borders and land against another state. This principle is stated in Clause 4 of Article 2 of the United Nations Charter and is also known as customary international law. This charter states that imposing a change in the borders of a country by another country is considered an act of aggression.

So on this basis, first, they must not interfere in Iran's foreign issues, and second, they must obey international laws and not impose a change in the borders of a country. In other words, issuing statements about Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa islands is an exact symbol of interference in the foreign affairs and borders of an independent country.

Iran also showed that do not back off from its territory and will stand on its true rights. So, it's better for the rest of the world to focus on their own regional issues instead of making decisions for the sovereignty of an independent country. Otherwise, Iran will defend its rights and territory with all capable means.
