TEHRAN (Defapress) - James Elder, UNICEF spokesperson, strongly criticized new U.S. and Israeli regime plans to take control of humanitarian aid distribution in Gaza on Saturday.
Elder emphasized that these plans could exacerbate the suffering of children and families in the Gaza Strip, stating: "Humanitarian agencies oppose any plan that grants Israel, the occupying power, a role in aid distribution in Gaza."
Recently, under the guise of a humanitarian gesture, the U.S. proposed a plan that would place Israeli authorities in charge of overseeing aid distribution in Gaza. The U.S. claims the move aims to prevent aid from reaching Hamas.
U.S. Ambassador to Occupied Palestine, Mike Huckabee, claimed yesterday that President Donald Trump ordered the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza due to "concerns over an impending humanitarian disaster in the Strip."
Huckabee explained: "Trump wants food to be distributed in Gaza safely and efficiently. Israel will not play a role in aid distribution but will be involved in security coordination."
He further asserted: "We share Israel’s concerns about aid reaching Hamas in Gaza. The U.S. stands with Israel, and Trump has been its strongest supporter."
In response to these claims, Elder stressed that "using humanitarian aid as a tool to force Gazans to displace, especially from the north to the south, puts them in an impossible dilemma: choosing between death or displacement."
He also emphasized that there is a much simpler alternative to the U.S.-Israeli proposals for Gaza: "Lifting the blockade and allowing humanitarian aid to enter freely to save the people of Gaza."
