TEHRAN (Defapress) - In an interview with Defapress correspondent, Hadi Hosseinpour, a military security expert, explained the importance of heliborne operations (transporting infantry troops by helicopter) in world wars and examined the possibility of America implementing this tactic on Iranian islands.

Stating that the implementation of heliborne faces several challenges, including the need for helicopters to fly at low altitudes to deploy troops, Hosseinpour stated: Flying at low altitudes exposes helicopters to the sight and range of air defense systems, including shoulder-launched missiles and anti-aircraft systems, which is one of the main problems of this type of operation.
The expert also pointed to the problem of refueling helicopters during heliborne operations as another challenge of this tactic.
He considered the implementation of heliborne deep in the country to be unthinkable and ruled it out, but considered the possibility of implementing it on islands to be possible and emphasized that if the defense is prepared against the attacking forces, the heliborne operation will fail.
Hosseinpour added: “Heliporting our coasts is very dangerous and difficult for the enemy, and the enemy cannot easily do this; even if such an action is taken, it will face a crushing and regretful response from Iran.”
Referring to the weapons that Iran possesses, including Katyusha rockets and specialized weapons to counter the enemy’s hostile actions, this expert stated: “If these weapons are fired on a large scale, the enemy’s heliport operation will fail.”
He noted: “If the enemy chooses helicopters for Heliborning, it must accept its high casualties; also, the probability of success of the heliport, considering the level of our military facilities, is very small.”
Emphasizing the complexity of the mechanism for transferring forces via helicopter for the United States and NATO, Hosseinpour stated: “If the enemy seeks a heliport on our soil, it must assume at least 300 to 400 casualties for itself.”
Finally, referring to Iran's ability to destroy enemy troop concentrations in heliborne operations, he said: "We can easily target the concentration of troops in enemy heliborne operations with Kornet, Konkurs, and Almas anti-armor missiles and other weapons, or destroy enemy targets with Rezvan drones; also, if the enemy attempts a heliborne operation, we will target the enemy aircraft with the systems that target Hermes drones."
