“The West is not going to marshal ground troops to come in and fight Russia and help Kiev. They learned from the Georgia experience the West is all talk. If they can do a dirty trick and get others to die and bleed... and they can capitalize and reap the benefits, they’ll do it,” Rodney Martin told Press TV in an exclusive interview.
Ukraine’s mainly Russian-speaking regions in the east have witnessed deadly clashes between pro-Moscow activists and the Ukrainian army since Kiev launched military operations to silence pro-Russians in mid-April. More than 3,000 people have reportedly been killed in the conflict.
The two sides signed a truce agreement in early September. However, sporadic skirmishes have undermined the pact.
The Kiev government is accusing Moscow of being solely responsible for the violation of the ceasefire. Pro-Russian forces hold Kiev accountable for the shaky nature of the ceasefire.
Referring to the accusation by the Ukrainian government, Martin said, “The spokesperson in Kiev wants to put everything on Russia. If that be the case then they should invite Russian troops to come in and secure the region much like what happened in Moldova when there was a breakaway separatist movement there.”
“Not a lot of truthful statements come out of Ukraine. This was the same interloper government that overthrew a democratically elected government and then sent the military to crush people who were exercising self determination; they shelled and attacked civilian targets.”
Violence intensified in eastern Ukraine in May after the two flashpoint regions of Donetsk and Luhansk held local referendums in which their residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of independence from Ukraine.
