TEHRAN (Defapress) - The rehabilitation and physiotherapy department at the Palestine Red Crescent Hospital in Khan Yunis is receiving dozens of children, adolescents, and adults who are victims of the recent war who have suffered amputations or serious motor injuries as a result of the criminal attacks of the Israeli regime and are undergoing treatment in very difficult and critical conditions.

Thousands of Amputations in Gaza Await Rehabilitation Services

The Director of the Palestine Red Crescent Rehabilitation Hospital, Dr. Tariq al-Hafni, emphasized in an interview with the Anadolu Agency that the center is currently treating about 100 wounded and patients with motor problems, but thousands of others are still waiting in line to receive rehabilitation services; Because no other center in Gaza has the capacity and facilities to accommodate the increasing number of wounded.

According to the Arab 48, he added: “The closure of crossings and the prevention of the travel of about 20,000 wounded for treatment outside Gaza has deepened the crisis and put a lot of pressure on the Red Crescent Hospital.”

According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), in the first year of the war alone, the number of amputations in Gaza was estimated to be between 3,105 and 4,050; figures that also include severe brain and spinal cord injuries and extensive burns.

In this regard, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, in its latest report published in November, announced the registration of about 6,000 amputations during the two years of the war and emphasized the urgent need to implement long-term rehabilitation programs and provide medical equipment, including artificial limbs, medicines, and support services.

Also, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) on December 3, 2025, rehabilitation services in the Gaza Strip have decreased by more than 62 percent, and no medical center in the area is operating at full capacity.

On the other hand, field reports show that the crisis for the wounded has encompassed all stages of treatment; from amputation surgeries to the aftermath, as the injured have to wait long in line to receive artificial limbs and physiotherapy treatment due to the lack of raw materials and sufficient specialists; which has severely slowed down the process of recovery and their return to normal life.

The medical staff of the Palestine Red Crescent Hospital has warned that the continuation of this situation could lead to serious physical and psychological consequences, especially among children, and that if urgent action is not taken to expand rehabilitation services and provide facilities, many of the wounded will never be able to regain mobility and re-employment.
