Speaking to reporters in Ankara, Yildirim stressed that the UN General Assembly's clear-cut rejection of the US decision on Jerusalem was “a clear message to the US”, Anadolu Agency reported.
The UN's 193-member General Assembly on Thursday adopted a resolution on Jerusalem by an overwhelming majority, calling on the US to withdraw its recognition of the city as Israel's capital.
A total of 128 members voted in favor of the Jerusalem resolution, nine countries voted against and 35 others abstained. Twenty-one countries did not cast a vote.
“I hope the US administration will evaluate this decision the right way and will give up [pursuing] this wrong decision as soon as possible,” he said, adding that “Turkey will follow this issue".
Our goal is "to side with those who are right," the premier said, adding that "It is both against our tradition and our understanding of the law to side with those who are powerful."
