Tehran, Sarajevo Jointly Celebrate Bosnian National Day

TEHRAN (defapress)- Bosnian National Day and the Islamic Unity Week (Nov. 20-26) were celebrated by both Iranians and Bosnians attending a joint ceremony held in the Bosnian city of Ilijas on Saturday.

Tehran, Sarajevo Jointly Celebrate Bosnian National DayDuring the ceremony, Bosnia-Herzegovina House of Representative Speaker Sefat Suftic and Iran's ambassador to the east European country, Mahmoud Heidari, delivered speeches, highlighting the need for boosting cultural ties between the two countries.

The event, held in Persian-Bosnian College’s language center, was also attended by Ilijas Mayor Akef Fazelich and Persian language teachers and students.

Addressing the event, the Iranian official congratulated the Bosnia’s national day, and called for providing educational opportunities, especially in the field of language learning, for the younger generation.

Fazelich, for his part, hailed “Iran’s significant role in defending Bosnian people and expressed hope that such joint educational and cultural programs will help students and the youth get a deeper knowledge of their history and identity."

Iran and Bosnia hold longstanding friendly relations in a wide range of economic, political and cultural fields.

Earlier on March 01, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with his Bosnian counterpart Igor Crnadak in Sarajevo, and underlined the need to broaden mutual cooperation in different fields, including campaign against terrorist groups.

In relevant remarks in January 2017, Bosnian Minister of Civil Affairs Adil Osmanović in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Sarajevo Mahmoud Heidari in the Bosnian capital called for broadening of mutual cooperation with Iran in different areas.

 “The Bosnian ministry of civil affairs is ready to take advantage of all opportunities and capacities to develop all-out relations with Iran in areas of science, culture, art, and sports,” Osmanović said.

The Iranian ambassador, for his part, pointed to the visits made by the two countries' officials to each other's capitals, and said that the way Iranian fairs in Bosnia and Herzegovina were dealt with by Bosnian people proved the depth of cultural commonalities between the two nations.

Heidari voiced Iran’s readiness for re-establishing the programs of cultural interactions between the two countries, and underlined the need for bolstering process academic cooperation between he two countries, specially in the areas of modern technologies.
