TEHRAN (Defapress) - A day after Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that the ambassador and staff of the Iranian embassy in Caracas were busy performing their duties and denied the news that Iranian diplomats had left Venezuela, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi thanked Ali Chegni, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Caracas, and diplomats working at the Iranian embassy in Venezuela, for their services and efforts.

He was also briefed on the latest developments in bilateral relations between Iran and Venezuela.

Iranian Ambassador Ali Chegni presented a report on the measures taken and ongoing to strengthen bilateral relations in the online meeting, which was also attended by Mehdi Sobhani, Deputy Minister for Administration and Finance, and Zahra Ershadi, Assistant Minister and Director General for American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Foreign Minister also emphasized Iran’s principled position in rejecting any threatening action against the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Venezuela, and expressed confidence that the Venezuelan people will defend their country’s independence and national interests against the illegal actions of the United States by maintaining national unity and cohesion.

Yesterday, in a weekly meeting with reporters, Baghaei announced: “Our embassy is very active, and the discussions raised about the departure of embassy staff are part of psychological warfare, just as we ourselves have faced in the past months. This is a recurring pattern that is now being used in the case of Venezuela as well.”

The spokesman for the diplomatic service also called the developments in Venezuela a concern for the international community and a serious test for the entire normative system that has been established over the past 80 years and is based on prohibiting aggression against national sovereignty and the territorial integrity of countries.

He called the US actions against Venezuela in contradiction to all these international standards and norms.
