TEHRAN (Defapress) - An official close to the government said the situation was under control. The source added that unidentified drones flew over the Miraflores presidential palace in central Caracas and security forces fired at them.

The incident occurred hours after Delcy Rodriguez was sworn in as Venezuela's interim president in parliament.
AFP reported that thousands of Venezuelans gathered in front of parliament at the same time as Rodriguez was sworn in, demanding the release of Nicolas Maduro.
Maduro and his wife were kidnapped on Saturday morning, January 3, 2026, following a US airstrike and transferred to the United States for trial. They appeared in a US court on Monday, and Judge Alvin Hellerstein read the indictment, charging Maduro with involvement in narco-terrorism.
Maduro, 63, said in court: "I am innocent. I have not committed any crime."
He added that he was arrested at his home in Caracas and that he still considers himself the president of Venezuela.
Representatives of various countries at an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council criticized the military attack by the Donald Trump administration on Venezuela, calling it a clear violation of the principles of international law and the UN Charter, and warned of its consequences for regional and international peace and stability.
