Iran Hoping for Adoption of Brazilian-Led UN Resolution on Gaza“We are against the carnage of women, children, and civilians anywhere in the world,” Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said in a telephone conversation with Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta Ian Borg on Monday.

He also referred to the framework of an initiative by Brazil to adopt a resolution on following up on a political solution to stop the attacks on civilians and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Amirabdollahian expressed hope that the resolution would be approved with the support of the UN Security Council’s non-permanent members to help the Palestinian people.

“Unfortunately, there is no proportionality between the Hamas liberation movement’s actions and the repeated raids and war crimes by the regime that has occupied al-Quds,” he stated.

For his part, Borg said Malta has become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, noting that the continuation of the conflict and the expansion of war are unacceptable.

He also stressed that efforts would continue to reach a political solution to the Gaza crisis, expressing hope that “we won’t witness the expansion of the war in the region.”

In another phone call with the Vatican's Secretary for Relations with States Paul Richard Gallagher, Amirabdollahian hailed the responsible stances adopted by his counterpart in the Vatican as well as the Pope on the tragedy in Gaza.

“In the current situation, there are two paths ahead of us; one, the path of trying to find a political solution – and we are still making efforts and holding talks in this path – and the other one is the continuation of the war and the possibility of spreading its scope,” the Iranian minister said.

“We believe that the Palestinian crisis should fundamentally be resolved. The political solution is holding a referendum under the aegis of the United Nations among all the original residents of Palestine, including Christians, Jews and Muslims,” Amirabdollahian noted.

At least 8,306 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in Israeli attacks since October 7, when Hamas launched a surprise operation outside Gaza.

UN officials have appealed to the Security Council for a ceasefire, as the head of UNICEF warns that more than 420 children are being killed or injured in Gaza every day.
