TEHRAN (Defapress) - According to Sputnik, Yemen's Ansar Allah announced that Sanaa International Airport was severely damaged following the Israeli attacks, which have trapped more than 3,000 Yemeni citizens in Jordan.
Khalid Al-Shayef, director of Sanaa Airport, said that the airport facilities were the target of a direct attack, including the firing of more than 15 missiles, which completely destroyed the passenger halls and airport equipment.
He added that those trapped included patients, students, and those who were supposed to return to Yemen an average of 300 people a day.
The director of Sanaa Airport indicated that measures have been initiated to reconstruct the airport and partially resume flights within a week.
Al-Shayef said that the damage to the airport infrastructure following the Israeli attack is extensive and that engineering teams are still assessing the extent of the damage.
He explained that preventive measures were taken before the attack and that transportable equipment was moved, leaving only the bare minimum necessary to operate very limited flights.
Al-Shayef said that flights for pilgrims from Sanaa airport were scheduled to resume this year, as they did last year, but cargo and humanitarian aid flights were completely halted.
The airport director said that maintenance teams began work immediately after the attacks, with 2 teams working around the clock; one specializing in repairing and rebuilding the airport terminals and the other responsible for maintaining the runway.
He predicted that the airport would partially resume operations within a week.
