TEHRAN (Defapress) - Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Jassim Al Thani announced that indirect talks between Hamas and Israel to reach an agreement on Gaza have reached a deadlock.
He said at the meeting of foreign ministers on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in Madrid: "We tried to find creative solutions to this crisis, but none of them worked. Even if we had succeeded in convincing Hamas to accept a phased plan acceptable to Israel, a mechanism under the auspices of the UN Security Council would have been established to advance the talks to end the war within a specific period, but Israel rejected this proposal.
According to this senior Qatari official, the talks held in Doha showed that Israel is only seeking an agreement to release its hostages, while Hamas is demanding a complete end to the war.
He added: "I think we have reached a deadlock."
On May 12, Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip released an Israeli soldier named Aidan Alexander, who is also a US citizen. After that, Hamas once again announced its readiness to resume talks on a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire. On the same day, Benjamin Netanyahu, after meeting with US President Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced that an Israeli delegation would be sent to Qatar. However, on May 22, the Egyptian channel Al Qahera News reported that Israel had recalled its delegation from the Qatari capital.
