TEHRAN (Defapress) - The issuance of arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant coincides with the ongoing genocidal conflict in the besieged Gaza Strip, which has now persisted for nearly 14 months, resulting in the deaths of approximately 44,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and injuring over 103,000 individuals.
This ruling has elicited responses from various global leaders.
According to Al Jazeera, the Canadian Prime Minister emphasized that all nations must adhere to international law. Justin Trudeau further affirmed that Canada would respect the decisions made by international courts.
In Italy, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani supported the International Criminal Court (ICC), asserting that the court should maintain a legal rather than a political function.
Additionally, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has endorsed the ICC's decision, highlighting the significance of the Geneva Conventions, which were established to safeguard civilians and prevent inhumane conduct during armed conflicts. While denouncing the high civilian death toll in Gaza, Sanders justified the ICC's charges against Netanyahu and Gallant for offenses such as employing starvation as a weapon and targeting non-combatants.
Although the British government has not yet provided a definitive response regarding the potential arrest of Netanyahu and Gallant in light of the ICC ruling, a spokesperson stated that the UK respects the independence of the ICC, recognized as the foremost international institution for investigating and prosecuting serious crimes.
Furthermore, Ammar al-Hakim, the Leader of the National Wisdom Movement in Iraq, characterized the arrest warrants as a reflection of the aspirations of freedom-seeking individuals worldwide. While expressing support for the decision, he also called for continued efforts to implement measures aimed at ending the Israeli military actions against the populations of Gaza and Lebanon. Hakim urged other nations to collaborate in holding the Zionist regime accountable and to acknowledge their violations of the UN Charter and international law.
Soon after the ICC's arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant, several world countries except for a few like the United States welcomed the move and called it binding for 124 signatories of the Rome Statute that established The Hague Court.
