The meeting was held on Monday on the sidelines of Interpol’s Project Kalkan meeting on combating terrorism hosted by Tehran on 10-11 July, 2017.
During the meeting, Interpol Secretary General Jürgen Stock noted the close cooperation with Iran on combating terrorism and drug trafficking, highlighting the significant role of the Islamic Republic in fighting the two international crimes.
For his part, Abbas Araghchi, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, expressed satisfaction over the close cooperation between Iranian police and Interpol, voicing Foreign Ministry’s readiness to help develop such cooperation between the two sides.
Araghchi underscored Iran’s leading efforts in combating terrorism and drug trafficking, saying that these two major issues not only are a threat to Iran, but the whole region and all countries across the world.
He called for international cooperation and more concentrated efforts from Interpol to combat these two major threats.
The Iranian diplomat further noted the politicizing of a number of Iran-related cases such as red notices on some Iranian officials, saying the lack of resolution on this case was due to implicit and explicit interventions with certain political objectives and interests.
Araghchi also stressed the good will on the Iranian side and the preparedness for bilateral cooperation with Interpol and the Argentinean side, and underscored the constructive role of the International Police Organization for settling various issues.
Iran is host to Interpol’s Project Kalkan meeting on 10-11 July in which representatives from 29 Interpol member countries will review cooperation and explore ways of enhancing technical assistance in combating terrorism.
