TEHRAN (Defapress) - Lebanon’s Aljoumhouria newspaper, citing a high-ranking source, claimed that yesterday’s Zionist attack on Beirut’s southern suburbs (Dahieh) pursued two main objectives.
First, imposing new wartime conditions on Lebanon—something neither the Lebanese government nor the Resistance will accept.
Second, attempting to sabotage the ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the U.S. as much as possible—talks that Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of the Zionist regime, strongly opposes.
The source told Aljoumhouria that the Zionists are aware of the positive progress in the negotiations and stressed that the regime must heed the warning from U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently stated he would not allow Netanyahu to drag America into war.
The source added that they had received reports confirming that the targeted location in Dahieh was a civilian and social site with no military significance, indicating the attack was primarily meant to send a message.
Aljoumhouria further claimed to have obtained intelligence suggesting Netanyahu’s strike on Dahieh was an attempt to derail U.S.-Iran negotiations—especially as the likelihood of an agreement appears high due to the optimism expressed by both sides during and after the talks.
The newspaper also reported that Netanyahu decided to prolong the war until the Knesset elections to escape domestic crises stemming from his failure in Gaza and mounting pressure to halt the war amid widespread protests in the occupied territories. Ending the war would allow his opponents to hold him accountable, leading to a major political defeat and his inevitable removal from power.
