TEHRAN (Defapress) - The Israeli prime minister, who is on trial by the International Criminal Court for war crimes in Gaza and has been avoiding travel, met in Tel Aviv on Sunday with the German chancellor, Israel’s most important ally after the United States.

Benjamin Netanyahu later acknowledged the same issue in a joint press conference with Friedrich Merz, saying: “Although I would very much like to travel to Germany, I have no plans for a diplomatic trip at the moment.”
He said that Israel and Hamas would enter the second phase of the ceasefire soon after the last body exchange, adding: “This phase, which includes the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, will begin by the end of this month.”
Netanyahu went on to note: “Few people believed that the first phase of the ceasefire would be achieved. The second phase is equally challenging. As I told the prime minister, there is a third phase: the deradicalization of Gaza. This seems impossible, but it has been done in Germany, Japan, and the Gulf states, and it can be done in Gaza. Of course, Hamas must be dissolved in any case.”
Germany's firm stance in support of the genocide
Friedrich Merz continued, calling Germany one of Israel's closest allies, and said: "Germany will participate in the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire by sending officers and diplomats to the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Center in southern Israel and by sending humanitarian aid to Gaza."
The German Chancellor added: "The German Federal Government continues to believe that a two-state solution is the best possible option, but recognition of a Palestinian state is only possible at the end of such a process, not at the beginning."
Netanyahu had previously emphasized that the establishment of a Palestinian state would mean a victory for Hamas and would ultimately lead to the formation of a larger state by Hamas within Israel's borders.
Stating that Germany's stance in support of Israel has not changed, Friedrich Mertz said: "There are currently no plans for the Israeli Prime Minister to visit Berlin, but I may invite Netanyahu to visit in the future."
He added: “I am not aware of the EU’s plan to boycott Israel or renew the ban on German military exports to Israel.” Germany lifted the temporary ban on military equipment exports to Israel, which it had previously imposed under pressure from world public opinion, after the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel began.
The secret of Germany’s interest in genocide
The reason for Germany’s support for Israel goes back to the efforts of Berlin’s rulers to downplay the country’s dark history of genocide, crimes, and warmongering. The German government’s support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza is done to normalize genocide and relativize its crimes in contemporary history.
At the height of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, the German Chancellor had said: “Israel is doing the dirty work of the West.” Israel’s crimes in Gaza gave the Germans the opportunity to whitewash their own crimes in World Wars I and II.
After World War II, the German government’s readmission to the international community was conditional on the process of denazification. Germany was supposed to be an agricultural and livestock-raising state after World War II. However, immediately after the war, the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union began, overshadowing the importance of denazification.
The fact is that Germany was never “denazified”; denazification means eliminating the policies that led to the rise of the likes of Adolf Hitler and Friedrich Mertz.
In search of the last body
The families of Israeli prisoners issued a statement yesterday saying: “We cannot move to the next phase of the ceasefire unless Ron Gvili returns home.” Israel, in turn, has accused Hamas of procrastination and threatened to resume military operations or cut off humanitarian aid.
Hamas is still searching for the body of Ron Gvili, a 24-year-old police officer who was killed in the October 7, 2023, attack and transferred to Gaza. According to Hamas, the search for his body in the ocean of debris is a difficult task that continues around the clock.
