DM: Iran Eager to Play Active Role in Reconstruction of Syria

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami underscored Tehran's enthusiasm for partnership in reconstruction of Syria after helping the country in anti-terrorism campaign.

DM: Iran Eager to Play Active Role in Reconstruction of SyriaTEHRAN (Defapress)- "We hope to have active partnership in the reconstruction of Syria," General Hatami told reporters upon arrival in Damascus at the invitation of his Syrian counterpart General Ali Abdullah Ayyoub.

He said that the main goal of his trip is development of mutual cooperation in the new environment of Syria that is focused on reconstruction.

General Hatami felicitated the victories of the resistance front against the terrorists, describing it as a milestone in regional cooperation.

He is also due to confer with the high-ranking Syrian officials on regional developments, fight against terrorism, ways to strengthen the resistance front and efforts to further broaden defense and military cooperation between Tehran and Damascus.

In relevant remarks in January, Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis underlined that his country had prioritized Iranian construction firms in reconstruction of Syria.

"Incentive packages have been considered for the Iranian companies in development projects of Syria,"

Khamis said in a meeting with members of a visiting Iranian parliamentary delegation in Damascus.
The Syrian prime minister expressed his special thanks to the unsparing support of the Iranian government and people for Syria in fighting against terrorism and termed the victories in Syria as a great achievement for the resistance movement.

He laid special emphasis on the participation of Iranian companies in economic activities and reconstruction projects of Syria.

Also, last November, Iran and Syria signed a contract in the field of electricity industry worth over one million dollar to restore power plants and produce electricity in Syria.

"Considering the capabilities of Iran in the electricity industry, Tehran and Damascus have signed a 1.2-billion-dollar contract to produce electricity in Syria," Syrian Electricity Minister Mohammad Zuhair Kharboutli said.

He underlined that the Iranian companies have high technology in the field of electricity, and said, "The civil war has caused the destruction of Syria's infrastructure and more than 50 percent of the country's electricity systems have been destroyed, but Damascus is trying to restore them with the help of Russia and Iran."
