Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the remarks during a daily briefing after Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Friday the country was suspending the extradition treaty with Hong Kong due to the new national security law for the city.
Relevant comments and actions by the Canadian side have grossly interfered in China's internal affairs and seriously violated international law and the basic norms governing international relations, Zhao said,CGTN reported.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Canada on Saturday expressed strong opposition to Canada's interference in Hong Kong affairs and China's domestic affairs, and warned the Canadian side to halt improper actions that harm bilateral relations.
Meanwhile, China warned its citizens on Monday to exercise caution when travelling to Canada, citing violence by law enforcement.
